Music School Violins

Over the last ten years, the nature of music school violins has changed greatly with the quality of student instruments going up and prices going down.  Chinese makers have made exceptional progress in quality, so where we previously used to rely on one or two suppliers to stock a range of qualities, we now find the best way of providing the finest selection is to be very discerning when choosing new stock.

Our experience teaches us that each supplier has generally just a few products from many is it's stock list which are outstanding value.  So we cherry pick to offer the best product in each price range, and where possible, we also source European equivalents.

Entry Level

Prima 200.  We supply all sizes of the hand made, Prima 200 violin, which is upgraded and set up in our workshop.  This enhanced outfit retails for £150, and in our opinion is the cheapest violin available that is worthy of decent set up.

Westbury.  This is a phenomenal sounding instrument, and comes with a carbon fibre bow and good case.  It is set up in our workshop, and retails at around £250.

Andreas Zeller.  Rumanian violins are trusted old friends.  They are solidly built and often have a good tone.  Teachers often specify them, and the woods used are all from the Carpathian Mountains.  They retail at £295.

Intermediate Level

Stamitz.  European instruments from the Czech Republic.  These instruments are made using European tonewoods, and we find them to be of consistent good quality, and have excellent tonal properties.  These instruments offer a good alternative, and start at £750.

GEWA (Germany). We currently find the violins offered by the old established German firm of Gewa are the best available for the range £500 to £950. Gewa have recently moved production to China, but have successfully managed to instill their high German standards for which they are famous. The instruments are set up, checked and varnished in Germany.

We also have four old German violins that have been set up in our workshop and are priced between £800 and £950.
