August Delunet Violin

August Delunet
Full size

Labelled ‘Franciscus Pressenda, Taurini, anno 1836’

A very striking one piece back of deep flamed maple, ribs of similar wood, scroll of attractive maple with some bird’s eye figuring, even grained spruce front, attractive orange/brown varnish

August Delunet was born in France, and worked for WE Hill & Sons from an early age, where he was quickly considered to be one of Hill’s more excellent restorers. After working for Hills he went to the US to work for the top restorers, Wurlitzer. He later returned to London to work from home, restoring and making.

This violin shows elements of French and English schools, with something unmistakably Hills about the overall impression.
